‘…and he was Amir Al-Mu’mineen’

Al-Hasan Al-Basri said:

I saw ‘Uthman bin ‘Affan sleeping in the mosque with a sheet around him and there was no one beside him, and he was Amir Al-Mu’mineen (commander of the faithful).

Not Wasting Time Arguing With the Ignorant

Al-Qādhī ’Ayyādh رحمه الله reported:

فهذا المعتصم الخليفة العباسي يلتفت إلى أحمد بن حنبل رحمه الله ويقول له: كلم ابن أبي دؤاد فأعرض عنه أحمد بوجهه
وقال: كيف أكلم من لم أره على باب عالم قط؟

“When Imām Ahmad ibn Hanbal رحمه الله was requested by the ruler of his time (al-Mu’tasim) to debate a certain matter with Ibn Abī Dā’ud, he (Imām Ahmad) turned his face away and said: “How can I debate with a person whom I have never seen at the door of any Scholar (ālim)?”

Imam Ibn Rajab on 15th of Shaban

The erudite scholar, jurist, and traditionalist, the learned Zain ad-Din Abu al-Faraj ‘Abd ar-Rahman ibn Ahmad ibn ‘Abd ar-Rahman ibn al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn Abi al-Barakah Mas’ud al-Sulami al-Baghdadi al-Hanbali, also known as Al Hafidh Ibn Rajab Al Hanbali stated the following in Lataa’if Al-Ma’arif :

‘…so long as we please Allah’

Ibn bashar said: We spent an evening with Ibrahim (bin Adham) and we had nothing to eat. So, he said to me:

‘O, Ibn Bashar! Look at how much Allah has bestowed comfort and bliss upon the poor. He will not ask them on the day of Judgment about their Zakat, Hajj, Charity, nor keeping ties with relatives! Do not grieve, for the rizq of Allah will surely come. By Allah, we are the kings and wealthy ones, those who have rushed comfort and received it in this world. We should not care in what state we are in so long as we please Allah.’

Then he got up and prayed

“Even if we disagreed..”

Younus Al-Sadafi said:

I have not seen anyone wiser than Al-Shafi’ee. I debated with him one day on an issue and we disagreed. When we met again, he took my hand, and said: ‘O, Abu Moosa, would it not be correct that we remain brothers even if we disagreed on an issue?’

Do not sell your soul for a lowly price

Shaykh Sayyid al-‘Affani: “Whoever seeks Allah and desires nobility and great honour, let him not sell his soul for a lowly price when in front of him lies Paradise and eternity. Indeed, we have only been created to live with our Creator in a Home the garden of which Allah the Most High has cultivated with His Hands.”

“I can’t say it…”

Abu Ishaaq Al-Fazari said to Abdullah bin Mubarak, “O Abu Abdulrahman, there was a man from our companions who had gathered more knowledge than you and I, and when he was dying, I told him, ‘Say: La Ilaha Ila Allah’. He said, ‘I can’t say it’. I asked him twice, and he could not say it. He remained like this until he died.”

Abdullah bin Mubarak said,“I asked about him, and it was said that he was disobedient to his parents”

Abu Ishaaq said, “So I presumed that he was forbidden from saying it (kalimat al ikhlaas) due to the disobedience of his parents.”

Imam Ahmed bin Hanbal: “Haddathana and Akhbarana…”

It is reported that ‘Abdullāh b. Ahmad b. Hanbal –Allāh have mercy on him – said: I asked my father, “Who are the [real] people?” He replied, “The [real] people are none but those who say haddathanā and akhbaranā (those who report hadīth).
